The Problems Of Transparency

How many times has it happened to you? You show up in your best finery to a fancy event… and suddenly everybody can see your panties!

This happens because some very cleverly-built places have floors with a very slight index of transparency, because they have reflections built into the whole structure—a duplicate structure below, actually!

See? That way the reflections show up through the semi-transparent floor, giving the impression that the floor is actually reflective- an effect currently not supported by Second Life materials. It does, however, have the unfortunate effect of also making any other material that even haves a slight amount of transparency vanish when superposed! The lady below (“Merry Difference”) chose a ravishing number without any transparencies, probably because she is a Second Life veteran and knows the perils of advanced Second Life couture.
